ART DIRECTOR WASIQ KHAN NO MORE | 5 May, 2025

Noted production designer Wasiq Khan breathed his last today (5th May) in Bombay. He was known for his realistic sets.

Son of an engineer, Wasiq chose the path of art direction after graduating in Fine Arts from the Jamia Milia Islamia University in Delhi. Art director Samir Chanda realised his potential and helped Wasiq in the early days of his career.

Wasiq started out as a backdrop painter at Kamalistan Studios when he entered the film industry. He then worked with Samir Chanda in Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film, Iruvar, and Shyam Benegal’s Hari-Bhari. His set designing in Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday, No Smoking and Gulaal catapulted him to a league from which there was no looking back. Kashyap’s That Girl In Yellow Boots and Gangs Of Wasseypur were some of the other films in which Wasiq Khan was the art director.

Among the commercial films for which Wasiq designed sets were Wanted, Dabangg, Ram-Leela, Raanjhanaa and Tanu Weds Manu. Taxi No. 9 2 11, Tere Bin Laden and Lamha were some other films for which Wasiq designed the sets.
