Nipon Goswami, the evergreen hero of Assamese films, passed away in Guwahati on 27th October at a private hospital after suffering a heart attack. He had not been keeping well since a long time. He was 80 years old. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law.
Nipon Da, as he was affectionately referred to, had acted in Do Anjaane (1976) with Amitabh Bachchan. He was a batch-mate of Subhash Ghai and Shatrughan Sinha in Pune’s FTII. His name adorned the titles of many Assamese hits and blockbusters for more than 50 years. Dr. Bezbarua (1969) was the first Assamese thriller which brought him fame and stardom. The film’s sequel, Dr. Bezbarua 2, was screened at the 2019 International Film Festival of India in Goa and is awaiting its theatrical release. The sequel has been directed by Nipon Da.
