CELEBRITY MANAGER KARISHMA PRAKASH GETS BAIL IN DRUGS CASE | 28 October, 2022

The Supreme Court recently granted celebrity manager Karishma Prakash anticipatory bail in the drugs case related to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. The apex court said, “We are inclined to confirm the interim order dated August 3 passed by us staying arrest of the petitioner, subject to such conditions as may be imposed by the special judge for NDPS cases at Greater Bombay, including the condition that the passport of the petitioner shall be deposited in the court of learned special judge.”

Karishma, who was Deepika Padukone’s manager, had first sought bail in 2020. However, a special NDPS court in August 2021 rejected her plea. It had then said that though the statements of some co-accused would be inadmissible as evidence during the trial, they could be considered while deciding the pre-arrest bail at the stage of investigations “as prima facie circumstance and material” against her. The court had also said that in addition to the statements of the alleged drug peddler, the NCB had other digital evidence and Call Detail Records (CDR) against Karishma.

Subsequently, Karishma Prakash moved the Bombay high court against the order of the NDPS court. The high court had rejected her bail plea considering her prima facie “serious involvement”.

The NCB had booked Karishma after it allegedly found 1.7 gm. of hashish at her home at Versova in Bombay. The NCB officials also allegedly seized three vials of CBD oil or cannabidiol with traces of cannabis. Prakash denied having drugs.
