Actress Ayesha Julka has filed a case against the caretaker of her farmhouse at Lonavala (near Bombay) after her six-year-old dog was found dead. The police suspect that the caretaker, Ram Andre, suffocated the dog to death. The caretaker was working for the actress since 18 years.
Ayesha had buried the dog but got it exhumed for a post-mortem after doubts arose in her mind.
Ayesha and her businessman-husband, who live in Bombay, had adopted two dogs from the street, and raised them as their children. Their names were Rocky and Wrigley. The dogs used to stay at the farmhouse. On 13th September, the caretaker informed the couple that Rocky had died after falling and drowning in the water tank. Ayesha reached Lonavala soon thereafter. The statements of the caretaker’s wife and daughter did not match his contention. With a heavy heart, Ayesha buried the dog. However, she returned to Lonavala the same evening, exhumed the dog’s body and reached the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) Hospital in Bombay late in the night. The post-mortem report showed that the dog had died due to suffocation. On 17th, the police registered a case under section 429 of the IPC for mischief by killing or maiming cattle or any other animal. The police also found a blood-stained bedsheet at the farmhouse.
