The 2022 edition of the British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) show on 13th March paid glowing tributes in its ‘In Memoriam’ segment to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar who passed away on 6th February at the age of 92. In the tribute, she was described as “an Indian playback singer who recorded an estimated 25,000 songs for more than 1,000 Hindi films over a career spanning 70 years”. It also added that she became the first Indian artiste to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in 1974.
Actor-filmmaker Sidney Poitier, director Ivan Reitman, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, actors Monica Vitti and Sally Kellerman were also among those honoured.
