Small-time Bhojpuri film producer Ejaz Ahmad alias Fahad from Lucknow has been arrested in a fraud online dating and matrimonial website and for running a fake call centre for sextortion. The scam, which targeted men and women, has cheated people of several crores of rupees.
The producer was arrested following a six-kilometre chase in Lucknow, when he tried to flee in his vehicle. Ahmad is the main accused in the case. His accomplice, Zaid Khan, was earlier arrested from Bhopal and he revealed details of their operation to the police.
At least 80 victims, including 30 women, had been targeted through various online platforms. It is believed that the fraudulently obtained money was being used to produce Bhojpuri films.
