The Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) has issued the BMC and the district collector a notice to verify and take necessary action in the complaint raised by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya about violation of CRZ rules and destruction of mangroves by film studios which were allowed to come up along the seashore at Madh Island in Bombay during the MVA government’s rule. Somaiya had raised the issue with the authorities in July. He released the notices on social media on August 6.
Kirit Somaiya alleged that the companies who owned these studios were directly or indirectly linked to a former Congress minister and local MLA Aslam Shaikh. Kirit said, he would submit documents to prove his point in the next few days. The BMC denied any flotation of rules. An official of the BMC said that permission to studios was renewed every six months, when violations were checked.
