Leading Bombay exhibitor and distributor Rahul Haksar passed away this morning (5th April) around 11 a.m. of a rare brain disorder. He was 61 years old and is survived by his wife and two sons, one of whom is an architect and the other used to help him and his partner, Dr. Sunil Patil, in their exhibition and distribution businesses.
Rahul, who shared excellent business relations with every distributor of Bombay circuit, exhibitors and producers, was diagnosed with the brain disorder just a month back. His doctors had told him that he did not have much time to live. The end came this morning at his residence. His last rites will be performed today.
Rahul Haksar and Dr. Sunil Patil worked in partnership for 26 years. Their V.N. Films controls around 160 cinemas in Bombay circuit. Their other concern, August Entertainment, distributed a number of films in Bombay circuit. Since he was the Bombay-based partner, he “single-handedly handled the exhibition and distribution businesses,” according to partner Dr. Sunil Patil. The offices of V.N. Films and August Entertainment as also the cinemas run by them in their account are shut today.
