The Chembur police in Bombay, investigating the offence of assault on singer Sonu Nigam in February this year, submitted a chargesheet against Swapnil Phaterperkar, son of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) MLA Prakash Phaterperkar. He has been accused of manhandling Sonu, his friend and his bodyguard during a music programme.
The court has taken cognisance of the chargesheet and posted the matter for the next hearing on June 28.
On February 21, the Chembur police registered an offence of assault, negligence and wrongful restraint against Swapnil Phaterperkar and others for manhandling Sonu Nigam and his team. Swapnil, whose family had organised the Chembur Festival at which Sonu performed on February 20, insisted on taking a selfie with the singer. He got into a scuffle with Sonu, his friend, Rabbani Khan, and bodyguard, Hariprakash. In the commotion, Sonu fell on the steps of the dais whereas Rabbani was thrown off the stage.
