COURT ORDERS YOUTUBE TO REMOVE ‘SAHEB BIWI AUR GANGSTER’ UPLOADED ILLEGALLY | 4 June, 2020

In a landmark decision, the Delhi high court on 3rd June asked Google to remove from the YouTube platform producer Rahul Mittra’s 2011 film, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster, which had been recently uploaded illegally. Justice Rajiv Shakdher in an interim order directed YouTube to take down the film within 48 hours. The lawyer for YouTube told the court that the YouTube platform had been taken over by Google.

The order came on a lawsuit filed by Mittra who is the sole copyright holder of the film in perpetuity. Rahul Mittra said that the illegal uploading of the film had degraded his rights, causing him wrongful loss. The high court issued notices to YouTube and Google, seeking their response to the lawsuit. The proceedings were held via video conferencing.
