‘DAGADI CHAWL 2′ (MARATHI) REVIEW | 19 August, 2022

Mangalmurti Films and Sangeeta Ahir Moviez’s Dagadi Chawl 2 (Marathi; UA) is the sequel to Dagadi Chawl.

Surya (Ankush Chaudhari) has quit the underworld and gotten married to Sonal (Pooja Sawant). They now have a little kid. Meanwhile, Daddy alias Arun Gawli (Makarand Deshpande) has become an MLA and his popularity is soaring because of which the chief minister feels threatened. The CM asks home minister Nanasaheb (Milind Pathak) to do something which can curb Daddy’s growing popularity. Nanasaheb approaches Raghu (Ambrish Deshpande) for help. Raghu is Daddy’s man but nurses a grudge against Daddy. To strategise the further plan of action, Daddy now wants Surya back. But Surya refuses to join the underworld.

After Surya refuses to return to the underworld, his wife is murdered. Surya assumes that Daddy has sought revenge as he had declined the offer to rejoin the underworld. Obviously, Surya swears revenge. What happens thereafter?

Macchindra Bugde has written a story which is quite predictable. The screenplay, penned by Macchindra Bugde and Chandrakant Kanse, is better than the story as it keeps the audience engaged, more so in the post-interval portion. The first half does have some boring moments. The revelation of the suspense towards the end is interesting. Sanjay Jamkhandi’s dialogues are very good at several places.

Ankush Chaudhari is very good as Surya. Makarand Deshpande does a wonderful job as Daddy. Pooja Sawant is alright in a brief role as Sonal. Yatin Karyekar leaves an impact as Daddy’s lawyer, Gulabrao. Ambrish Deshpande lends decent support as Raghu. Ashok Samarth makes his mark as Shakeel. Nachiket Purnapatre is adequate as Rashid. Milind Pathak has his moments as home minister Nanasaheb. Shrikant Yadav (as More), Vijay Nikam (as Kamat) and the others lend fair support.

Chandrakant Kanse’s direction is effective. Amitraj’s music is fairly nice. Lyrics (Kshitij Patwardhan) are okay. Aditya Bedekar’s background music is appealing. Vasudeo Arun Rane’s cinematography is of a good standard. Vikram Dahiya’s action and stunt scenes are thrilling. Satish Chipkar’s art direction is nice. Faisal Mahadik and Imran Mahadik’s editing is quite sharp.

On the whole, Dagadi Chawl 2 is an entertaining fare, mainly for the masses.
