Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Cinemas’ Dasara (dubbed from the Telugu film of the same name; UA) is the story of good versus evil.
Dharani and Suri are childhood friends. Dharani is in love with Vennela but quite early on, he sacrifices his love when he learns that Suri also loves her. All the three are grown up now. Dharnai (Nani) ensures that Vennela (Keerthy Suresh) gets married to Suri (Dheekshith Shetty) but, as luck would have it, Suri is killed on the day of the wedding itself. In fact, Chinna Nambi (Shine Tom Chacko) murders Suri because he lusts for Vennela. To save Vennela from Chinna Nambi, Dharani marries her. After that, he sets out to avenge his friend’s murder.
Srikanth Odela, Jella Srinath, Arjuna Paturi and Vamsi Krishna P. have written a rather predictable story and screenplay, which may involve the audience but don’t really impress them much because they move on the beaten path. The love story is not very heartwarming. In fact, there is hardly any romance. The second half gets a bit boring too, mainly because the warmth of a love story after marriage is almost missing. Overall, the presentation and performances are better than the script. Dialogues are ordinary.
Nani does a fine job as Dharani. Keerthy Suresh acts ably as Vennela. Dheekshith Shetty lends able support as Suri. Shine Tom Chacko makes his mark in the role of Chinna Nambi. Samuthirakani has his moments as Shivanna. Sai Kumar leaves a mark as Rajanna, step-brother of Shivanna. Shamna Kasim makes her presence felt as Chinna Nambi’s wife. Jhansi (as Vennela’s mother), Rajsekhar Aningi (as police inspector Nagaraju) and Raviteja Nannimala (as Dharani’s friend) lend decent support.
Srikanth Odela’s direction is good. He has presented a routine story in an interesting way. Santhosh Narayanan’s music is appealing but no song will be a hit in Hindi. Lyrics are so-so. Prem Rakshith’s dances are very eye-filling. Background music is fair. Sathyan Sooran’s cinematography is of a good standard. Action and stunt scenes (by Real Sathish and Anbariv) are thrilling and exciting. Avinash Kolla’s production designing is good. Navin Nooli’s editing is reasonably sharp. Dubbing is very good.
On the whole, Dasara is an average fare for the Hindi-speaking audience.
Released on 30-3-’23 at Inox (daily 2 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay thru AA Films. Publicity: so-so. Opening: very ordinary. …….Also released all over.
