Shankracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati on January 19 announced at Prayagraj the setting up of a 10-member Dharm ‘Censor Board’ to keep an eye on religious depictions in films, web series, TV serials and documentaries. The aim of the self-styled ‘censor board’ which, incidentally, has no government sanction, will be to keep an eye on films which insult Hindu deities and culture, and oppose their release. The board, headed by Avimukteshwaranand himself, will check “attacks” on Sanatan culture through films.
Since the Dharm ‘censor board’ has no legal sanction, it proposes to combat anti-Hindu films and those which hurt the faith by making an appeal to Hindus to not watch them.
The other nine members of the new ‘censor board’ include people from different walks of life.
