Veteran filmmaker Chandra Barot breathed his last at a hospital in Bombay today (20th July). He was 86 years old.
Chandra Barot, whose was best known for directing Amitabh Bachchan starrer Don, had been battling pulmonary fibrosis since seven years.
There’s an interesting story behind the making of Don. Chandra Barot made Don to support his close friend and cinematographer-producer Nariman Irani. Little did he or, for that matter, anyone know then that the gesture would prove to be a box-office lottery for Irani and a film which would go on to define Barot’s career for all times to come.
