Antony Perumbavoor, one of the producers of the controversial L2: Empuraan, was recently served a notice by the Income-tax department. The notice seeks clarifications about his earnings. The department said that the notice was part of routine assessment. His house was also inspected.
The department clarified that the I-T notice had no connection with the controversy surrounding the film. The scenes of the Godhra riots in the film came in for criticism from functionaries of the BJP and the RSS. The producers were quick to agree to re-certification of the film which was passed again after 24 deletions and alterations.
Following the controversy, the Enforcement Directorate searched the premises of Gokulam Gopalan, joint producer of L2: Empuraan. After that, the I-T department also served notice on Prithviraj Sukumaran, director and actor of the film.
