FILM PRODUCER LOSES RS. 1.3 LAKH TO BETTING FRAUD | 27 August, 2021

Aditya Singh, a 33-year-old film producer from Kamothe (near Bombay), was duped of Rs. 1.35 lakh by cyber fraudsters who had created a mobile app for betting on games, offered profits and charged 40% commission on the profits. The victim (producer) created a user ID, linked it to his e-wallet and then transferred money to his bank account. Initially, when he laid bets by transferring money, the fraudsters added profits to his account. They later deleted his account and duped him of Rs. 1.35 lakh which was deposited in his account.

Acting on a complaint by Aditya Singh, the Kamothe police registered an FIR against the accused who was booked under sections 419 and 420 of the IPC along with sections 66(c) and 66(d) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Aditya told the police that on August 6, his friend, Kanha Singh, sent him two files — geekcloudapp.apk and betfairapp.apk — and asked him to download them.
