The Kerala Story, which has been in the eye of a controversy ever since its trailer was released more than a fortnight back, is not being screened in multiplexes of Tamil Nadu from today (7th May). The protests against the bold film started in Madras yesterday (6th) but they have prompted multiplexes across the Southern state to discontinue the film. The multiplex owners have cited potential law and order issues and lack of response from the public as reasons for the move to discontinue its screening.
The Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) on May 6 staged a protest in Madras against the film’s release. The NTK party is headed by actor-director Seeman. The party protested near Skywalk Mall in Madras against the film. Seeman said that if the film was not stopped in cinemas despite the protests, they would break the screens and cinemas. Seeman also appealed to the cinema owners to not run the film and urged people not to watch it. He warned that if the film was not banned, the NTK workers would buy the tickets for it and start protesting inside the cinemas.
On May 5, the day the film opened, two cinemas in Kochi cancelled the screening of the controversial film.
