Released last week in U.P., Giriva Productions’ Gaalib is the story of a young man, Gaalib, whose life turns upside down when his father is sentenced to death in a case of terrorism. His school teacher pulls him out of his miserable state with his lessons on positive thinking.
Yashomati Devi and Dhiraj Mishra have written a dull and drab story and screenplay. The drama moves at a snail’s pace and literally tests the audience’s patience. It is devoid of emotions, light moments or thrilling anecdotes. The duo’s dialogues are barely functional.
Deepika Chikhalia fails to impress as the burqa-clad woman. Anil Rastogi is so-so. Hussain Khan is average. Megha Joshi does an ordinary job. Others pass muster.
Manoj Giri’s direction is kiddish. Paramendra Pandey’s camerawork is functional. Editing is loose.
On the whole, a debacle. 1st week Gunjan, Kanpur: 3,920/-.
