GANGA JAMUNA TWIN CINEMAS FINALLY BEING DEMOLISHED | 15 August, 2020

Ganga and Jamuna cinemas at Tardeo in Bombay will soon be reduced to rubble. The demolition work of the twin cinemas re-started on 14th August after three earlier attempts. The first demolition work commenced in December last year but it was stopped due to shortage of labour. Razing down of the structure was resumed the same month but did not progress much. It was once again resumed in March this year but had to be stopped due to the pandemic lockdown.

Since the iconic cinemas, which have been shut since 18 years, have been on the list of dilapidated buildings of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation since 2008, there was no way, they would not be demolished. Finally, demolition work resumed yesterday. The structure had been declared dangerous last year. Ganga cinema had 1,000 seats while Jamuna was an 850-seater.
