‘GHOST’ (DUBBED) REVIEW | 19 October, 2023

Sandesh Productions and Popular Entertainment Network’s Ghost (dubbed from the Kannada film of the same name; UA) is a heist action thriller. A gangster and his team hijack an entire prison, much to the embarrassment of the authorities.

Srini has written a story which moves at a fast pace but gets very confusing at several places. Not just because there are too many characters but even otherwise, the story is confusing. Srini’s screenplay does not give the viewers time to think but having said that, it must be added here that for the Hindi film-going audience, the high-on-action-and-low-on-logic drama will not work much because the Kannada film actors are not big stars for them in spite of being so for the Kannada-speaking audience. The fast pace is the biggest asset of the screenplay, but that’s not enough. Dialogues (by Dinesh Dabas) are good.

Dr. Shivarajkumar does fairly well in the title role. Jayaram is very good as Charan Raj. Prashanth Narayanan leaves a fine mark in the role of Vaman. Anupam Kher makes his presence felt as A.N. Rao. Dattanna is effective as Anthony. Archana Jois impresses as journalist Laxmi. Vijayalakshmi Singh, Sathya Prakash, Ashok Hegde, Abhijith, Prithviraj, Om Prakash Rao, Kamraj, and the others provide decent support. M.G. Srini does well as Mahesh Das. Master Prakash Guptha is impressive as Prabhu. Poorvi is natural as Geetha. Master Rohan Achari is fair as Anand.

Srini’s direction is fairly good but could’ve been better. Arjun Janya’s music is alright. Lyrics (Chiranjeevi, M.C. Chethan, Rajesh and Nishan Rai) are okay. Background music is impactful. Mahendra Simha’s cinematography is excellent. Action choreography (Chethan D’Souza, Venkat, Arjun Raaj and Mass Madha) is exciting and thrilling. Mohan B. Kere’s production designing is appropriate. Deepu S. Kumar’s editing is sharp. Dubbing is nice.

On the whole, the chances of Ghost at the Hindi box-office are bleak — and not just because of lack of promotion.
