To say that the wedding reception of Ira, daughter of superstar Aamir Khan and Reena, with Nupur Shikhare in Bombay was a grand event would be an understatement. For, it was much, much more than that.
The reception of Mr. Perfectionist’s daughter was so perfect that it will be discussed for weeks and months on end. Right from the venue (Jio World Convention Centre) to the decor to the drinks and the delicious dinner spread, everything was just right. It is difficult to imagine how much planning must’ve gone in to the event on 13th January for it to move with clockwork precision.
The goodwill which Aamir has built over the years was evident in the attendance. Stars of yesteryears rubbed shoulders with the heroes, heroines and actors of today. Hema Malini, Dharmendra, Rekha, Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Jaya Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Kartik Aaryan, Ritesh Deshmukh, Genelia Deshmukh, Ayushmann Khurana, Aparshakti Khurana, Aditi Rao Hydari, Siddharth, Farhan Akhtar, Shruti Haasan, Akshara Haasan, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Poonam Dhillon, Gippy Grewal, Aftab Shivdasani, Manjari Fadnis, Kabir Bedi, Vidya Malavade, Ronit Roy Bose, Randeep Hooda, Huma Qureshi, Saqib Saleem, Rajesh Khatter, Swara Bhasker, Sakshi Tanwar, Deven Bhojani, Sunny Leone, Rajpal Yadav, Paloma, Rajveer Deol were only some of the many, many stars who graced the wedding reception and blessed the newly-weds. Rajkumar Hirani, Subhash Ghai, Ramesh Taurani, Indra Kumar, Ashok Thakeria, Ketan Mehta, Rajkumar Santoshi, Abbas-Mustan, Siddharth Malhotra, Pushkar-Gayatri, Om Raut, Baba Azmi, Hussain Burmawala, Vijay Koshy (TVF), Arunabh (TVF), Mahaveer Jain, Ram Sampath, Sona Mahapatra, Bosco-Caesar, … the list of producers, directors, editors, music directors, singers and other technicians who added class to the evening was also very long. Ministers, bureaucrats, industrialists… the flow of guests was endless. Little wonder that the queue of the invitees to bless the couple and wish them was never-ending. To Aamir Khan’s credit, it must be mentioned that he met each and every guest with the same warmth and smile. The newly-weds and Aamir and Reena were on their feet for more than five hours, meeting the guests patiently and graciously.
The merry-making went on till the wee hours of the next morning. It was quite unusual to see a number of stars and celebrities, who usually make quick exits from crowded wedding receptions after a few minutes only, stay back for an hour and even more to mingle around. The reception in Bombay marked the end of the celebrations which started in Bombay, and moved for three days to Udaipur thereafter. Ira and Nupur had had a registered marriage in Bombay on 3rd January.
