GUJARAT HC QUASHES CRIMINAL CASE AGAINST SHAH RUKH KHAN IN ‘RAEES’ PUBLICITY INCIDENT | 29 April, 2022

The Gujarat high court on April 27 quashed a 2017 criminal case against Shah Rukh Khan in connection with a stampede on the railway platform of Vadodara station when the actor was on a train trip to promote his Raees. A man passed away after suffering a heart attack at the station during the event. A case against Shah Rukh was registered for allegedly committing acts endangering the life or personal safety of others.

Justice Nikhil Kariel allowed the actor’s plea to quash the criminal case and summons issued against him by a Vadodara court. Khan had approached the high court after a lower court issued him summons under section 204 of the Cr. PC (for securing the attendance of the accused). A court of the chief judicial magistrate of Vadodara had issued Khan summons after noting that there was sufficient ground for initiating proceedings against him in the case under sections 336, 337 and 338 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for allegedly committing acts endangering the life or personal safety of others and causing simple and grievous hurt to them by such acts.
