IAF PLANE IN ‘WAR’ IS A SET | 10 October, 2019

Siddharth Anand’s War has a number of in-air combat sequences. But producer Aditya Chopra could not get permission from the Indian Air Force to shoot inside Gajraj, a real fighter plane. Chopra, therefore, had no other option but to recreate the entire interior portion of Gajraj. Since production designer Rajat Poddar had no access to the inside of the IAF aircraft due to security reasons, all he had to make do with was the blueprint of the original aeroplane. Hence he and his art direction team constructed the interior of the ‘IAF plane’ by remodelling it on the American air force plane, Hercules, which has the same prototype as Gajraj.

The engine room of an icebreaker ship was also erected for another action sequence. That ship had dynamic parts.
