TRADING PLACES | 10 October, 2019

A friend in need is a friend indeed. Producer Bhushan Kumar has come to the rescue of his friend, producer Dinesh Vijan. He has shifted the release of his Marjaavaan by a week so that Vijan’s Bala can come a week earlier. For those who came in late, Marjaavaan was slated for release on 8th November, and Bala, on 15th November. However, producer Kumar Mangat Pathak silently completed and then announced the release of his Ujda Chaman on 8th November. It didn’t need to be spelt out, the intention of Pathak was clear. Since both, Bala and Ujda Chaman, were based on the same subject of premature balding, Kumar Mangat Pathak wanted to come before Bala. Besides, Ujda Chaman marks the directorial debut of Mangat’s producer-son, Abhishek Pathak.

Realising that he could be at a disadvantage if his Bala came a week after Ujda Chaman, if only because the films had similar story lines, Dinesh Vijan approached Bhushan to understand if he could trade the release dates. Bhushan rose to the occasion and agreed to shift his Marjaavaan by a week. In other words, the T-Series head honcho magnanimously decided to postpone Marjaavaan to 15th November just so that Bala could hit the screens on 8th November. Hence, both the films about premature balding will now come on the same day — 8th November. Gosh, this is going to be one helluva hair-raising week!!

Just to refresh people’s memories, Marjaavaan was first announced for release on 2nd October but when Aditya Chopra declared that his War would release on that day, producers Nikhil Advani and Bhushan Kumar postponed their Marjaavaan to 8th November. On 8th November was also announced Anil Kapoor and John Abraham starrer Pagalpanti. Realising that Marjaavaan could have been at a disadvantage if pitted against his Pagalpanti, John Abraham, a friend of Nikhil Advani and Milap Milan Zaveri (director of Marjaavaan) was gracious enough to postpone the release of Pagalpanti by two weeks (to 22nd November) so that Marjaavaan got a clear week. But that was also the day when Bala had already been announced for release. Vijan was in a fix but he had no option. But then something happened which came as great news for Dinesh Vijan and his Bala. Around the same time when John Abraham showed his large-heartedness, the release of Karan Johar’s Bhoot got shifted from 15th November to early next year. That’s when Vijan decided to advance the release of his Bala from 22nd November to 15th November. In this way, Bala would not have to face the opposition of Pagalpanti. However, that was not the end of problems for Bala. For, then came along the news about the release of Ujda Chaman on 8th November. That set off the release merry-go-round as above.

So now, Marjaavaan will come on 15th November instead of 8th November. Bala will release on 8th November instead of 15th November. Ujda Chaman will also hit the screens on 8th November. And Pagalpanti will see release on 22nd November. The schedule now reads as follows:
Bala 8th November
Ujda Chaman 8th November
Marjaavaan 15th November
Pagalpanti 22nd November
