KANGANA RANAUT ISSUED SUMMONS IN JAVED AKHTAR’S DEFAMATION CASE | 2 February, 2021

The Andheri metropolitan magistrate court in Bombay on February 1 issued summons to Kangana Ranaut in the defamation case filed by writer-lyricist-poet Javed Akhtar against her. After hearing arguments made on Javed Akhtar’s behalf, the court issued process against her under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code. Akhtar was present in the court.

The court had recorded Javed Akhtar’s staement last month. In his complaint, the writer had alleged that the actress had made some damaging statements against him in her interview on national and international television on July 19, 2020, to malign and tarnish his reputation. She had accused him of being part of a suicide gang in Bollywood and threatening her to withdraw her complaint against Hrithik Roshan. The police submitted to the court its inquiry report in the case on February 1, as directed by it.
