KARNATAKA HC STAYS NDPS CASE AGAINST TELUGU FILM ACTRESS HEMA | 2 January, 2025

The Karnataka high court on December 31 stayed further proceedings against Telugu film actress Kolla Hema in a drug abuse case registered against her following a raid on a rave party in Bangalore in May last year. Allowing the interlocutory application filed by Hema seeking a stay on the proceedings, the HC observed that she was chargesheeted for offences punishable under section 27(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, only on the basis of confessional statement of a co-accused.

Vacation judge Justice Hemant Chandanagoudar said in his interim order, “There is no corroborative material to substantiate that (she) consumed MDMA.”

Hema was arrested on June 3, 2024 by the central crime branch. She was released on bail about 10 days later.
