‘KHWAABON KA JHAMELA’ REVIEW | 9 November, 2024

Jio Studios, Baweja Studios, Indo-UK Film Company and Oddball Motion Pictures’ Khwaabon Ka Jhamela is a romantic comedy. It is the story of a young man who hires the services of an intimacy coordinator.

Zubin (Prateik Babbar) is rejected by his fiancée, Shehnaz (Kubra Sait), due to bedroom woes. He travels to the UK where he meets Ruby (Sayani Gupta), an intimacy coordinator. She trains him in the field in which he is found lacking.

The story, written by Danish Aslam, Arpita Chatterjee, Harman Baweja and Vicky Bahri, is based on Jonas Chernick’s film, My Awkward Sexual Adventure. It is very thin and although it is meant to be a comedy, the fun element often just doesn’t come through. The screenplay, penned by Danish Aslam, Arpita Chatterjee and Harman Baweja, appears too stretched because the story-line is thin. Therefore, the drama often doesn’t hold the audience’s interest. Danish Aslam’s dialogues are quite funny at places.

Prateik Babbar is average as Zubin. Sayani Gupta is earnest in the role of Ruby. Kubra Sait acts ably as Shehnaz. Lillete Dubey stands her own as Zubin’s mother. Freddie Love is adequate as Quinn. Anisa Butt has her moments as Nauheed. Danish Hussain (as Ruby’s father) makes his presence felt. Kaizaad Kotwal (as Zubin’s father) is okay. Amber Elizabeth, Farhan Baqi, Leah Khambata and the others lend average support.

Danish Aslam’s direction is fair but, like the script, it holds appeal mainly for the class audience. Danish has not been able to make the drama a very entertaining fare. Music (by Siddharth Basrur, Surya Raghunaathan, Chandan Raina, Subhi Khanna and Ed Geater) is so-so. Lyrics (Surya Raghunaathan, Chandan Raina and Subhi Khanna) are average. Ranju Raju Varghese’s choreography is functional. Sagar Desai’s background music is ordinary. Anshuman Mahaley’s cinematography is quite appealing. Production designing (by Natasha Gauba) is okay. Abhishek Seth and Prachay Thakore’s editing could’ve been sharper.

On the whole, Khwaabon Ka Jhamela is an ordinary fare, mainly for the classes.

Released on 8-11-’24 on JioCinema.
