‘KUBERAA’ (DUBBED) REVIEW | 20 June, 2025

Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP, Amigos Creations Pvt. Ltd. and Mugafi’s Kuberaa (dubbed from the Tamil-Telugu film of the same name; UA) is the story of a beggar who is going to be used by a rich businessman to make huge profits, but the beggar turns out to be smarter than what the businessman had bargained for.

Neeraj Mitra (Jim Sarbh) gets ex-CBI officer Deepak (Nagarjuna) released from jail to carry out illegal transactions for commercial gains. Deepak identifies four beggars — Deva (Dhanush), Khairu, Nibya and Khushbu — in whose newly-opened Swiss bank accounts are transferred crores of rupees by Neeraj. Unknown to Deepak, Neeraj’s plan is to transfer the money to the ultimate beneficiary via the Swiss bank accounts of the four beggars and then to have the beggars killed one after another. Khairu and Nibya are killed in this fashion after Rs. 10,000 crore are transferred to and then from each of their respective accounts. Deva, till now unaware that he is next on the list, escapes before he can be similarly murdered; the transfer transaction from his account also fails. Deva meets Sameera (Rashmika Mandana). Soon, Deepak tracks down Deva and takes him to meet the fourth beggar, Khushbu, who, incidentally, is pregnant. However, Neeraj’s henchmen reach there. Deepak and Khushbu are killed in the action that follows. But Khushbu gives birth to her child before dying. Deva then kills Neeraj.

Sekhar Kammula and Chaithanya Pingali have written a routine story and a hackneyed screenplay. Resultantly, the drama is so ordinary that it fails to engage the viewers. The entertainment quotient is so low that there is nothing much for the audience. Romance is minimal. Even the humour quotient is lacking. Emotions are conspicuous by their absence. The pace is slow. Dialogues (by Divya Prakash Dubey and Krushnakant Jonnalgadda) are commonplace.

Dhanush acts ably as Deva. Rashmika Mandana is okay as Sameera. Nagarjuna is nice in the role of Deepak. Jim Sarbh does a fine job as Neeraj Mitra. Dalip Tahhil lends average support as Neeraj’s father. Sayaji Shinde is ordinary in a brief role as police officer Ashok Godbole. Sunaina is passable as Deepak’s wife, Shilpa. Hareesh Peradi (as Sidhappa) provides fair support. Divya Dekate, Koushik Mahata, Saurav Khurana, Col. Ravi Sharma and the rest deliver routine performances.

Sekhar Kammula’s direction is ordinary. Like the lacklustre script, even his narration is unexciting. Devi Sri Prasad’s music comprises a couple of fair numbers but the other songs are below the mark. Lyrics (Raqueeb Alam) are okay. Song picturisations (by Sekhar VJ) are quite nice. Devi Sri Prasad’s background music is okay. Niketh Bommireddy’s cinematography is appealing. Action and stunt scenes (Sridhar) afford some thrill but are not sensational. Thota Tharani’s production designing is average. Karthika Srinivas’ editing is loose. Dubbing is proper.

On the whole, Kuberaa is a flop show.

Released on 20-6-’25 at Gossip (daily 2 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay thru Single Window. Publicity: poor. Opening: dull. …….Also released all over. Opening was weak everywhere.
