‘DRISHYAM 2’ IN 3RD WEEK OUTSHINES ‘AN ACTION HERO’ IN 1ST WEEK!

None of the new releases this week took even an average initial.

An Action Hero turned out to be a damp squib. Lack of even an average opening underlined the fact that the film was under-promoted and that the audience was not interested in watching hero Ayushmann Khurrana as an action hero which went against his public image. The film netted Rs. 1.30 crore on the first day. Collections increased on the second and third days but the growth was not noteworthy. The total for Saturday was Rs. 2.15 crore while for Sunday, it was Rs. 2.50 crore. After a first weekend of Rs. 5.95 crore, collections sank on the weekdays. They were: Monday – Rs. 0.80 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.70 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.65 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.55 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 2.70 crore. Total for 1st week: Rs. 8.65 crore.

Bhedia did fair business in the second weekend but collections again dropped badly during the weekdays. The second weekend started with a take of Rs. 1.95 crore. Collections jumped by 90% on the second day so that the total for Saturday was Rs. 3.70 crore. The growth on Sunday was not too impressive. With a net total of Rs. 4.36 crore on Sunday, the second weekend closed at Rs. 10.01 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 1.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.20 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.90 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 4.60 crore. In this way, the second week closed at Rs. 14.61 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 52.21 crore.

Drishyam 2 is the one-horse race, marching from one glory to another. Its performance in the third week was better than the combined performances of Bhediya in 2nd week and An Action Hero in 1st week!! The third weekend started with a net collection of Rs. 4.45 crore. Collections on Saturday jumped by 90% (Rs. 8.45 crore). The third weekend’s Sunday was historic as it collected in double-digit crore (Rs. 10.39 crore)! In this way, the third weekend closed at Rs. 23.29 crore. In other words, it netted Rs. 186.76 crore in 17 days, thereby surpassing the lifetime India collections of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. Collections for the weekdays were also impressive: Monday – Rs. 3.05 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.53 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.11 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.84 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 9.53 crore. Total for 3rd week: Rs. 32.82 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 196.29 crore. The film is all set to join the Rs. 200-crore club in the fourth weekend. Overseas, the film grossed an equivalent of Rs. 6.80 crore in its third week, taking the 3-week total to Rs. 49.02 crore!

Uunchai netted Rs. 1.23 crore in the fourth weekend, and another Rs. 0.63 crore during the weekdays. Total for 4th week: Rs. 1.86 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 31.68 crore.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (dubbed and original English version) collected around Rs. 2 crore in the fourth week, taking its grand total for 4 weeks to Rs. 68.30 crore.

Goshta Eka Paithanichi (Marathi) could not do anything substantial in the first week in Maharashtra.

Ekdam Kadak (Marathi) proved to be a naram fare all over Maharashtra in 1st week.

Baal Bhaarti (Marathi) bombed miserably in 1st week.
