‘THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER’ DOES WELL IN FIRST WEEKEND, THIS WEEK’S FILMS BOMB

The box-office presented a terribly gloomy picture on Friday (July 15), what with shows of the newly released films being cancelled at different cinemas all over the country due to absence of audience. Whether it was HIT – THE FIRST CASE or SHABAASH MITHU or JUDAA HOKE BHI… or LADKI, it was the same story.

Khuda Haafiz Chapter 2: Agni Pariksha did ordinary in 1st week. The first day closed at Rs. 1.52 crore. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 1.96 crore and Rs. 3.47 crore respectively. After a first weekend total of only Rs. 6.95 crore, collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 1.87 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.41 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.10 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.95 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was only Rs. 5.33 crore. Total for 1st week: Rs. 12.28 crore.

Titu Ambani bombed miserably in the first week all over.

Romeo Ke Funday Laajawaab fared miserably in the first week all over.

Thor: Love And Thunder (dubbed and the original English versions) did very well in the four-day weekend (as it was released on Thursday), after which collections came down dramatically. However, it still managed a very respectable figure because of the excellent collections on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The weekend started with a take of Rs. 18.16 crore on Thursday. Collections dropped dramatically on the second day, as often happens when a film is released on an odd day. Friday closed at Rs. 11.35 crore. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 16.76 crore and Rs. 18.15 crore respectively. After a 4-day weekend total of Rs. 64.42 crore, collections fell down fast during the weekdays: Monday – Rs. 5.36 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 3.86 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 3.02 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.35 crore. In other words, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 14.59 crore. Therefore, the total for the first week was a fantastic Rs. 79.01 crore.

Rocketry: The Nambi Effect (Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil, Telugu dubbed, Malayalam dubbed and Kannada dubbed) was steady in the second week because of limited number of cinemas. In fact, collections of the Hindi and Hinglish versions were better in 2nd week than in the first week. The film would’ve benefitted if it had had a limited release from day 1. The Hindi and Hinglish versions together netted Rs. 1.27 crore on the first day of the second weekend. Collections more than doubled on the second day which closed at Rs. 3.03 crore. The total for Sunday was Rs. 3.95 crore. After a second weekend total of Rs. 8.25 crore, collections of the two versions for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 1.09 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.04 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.98 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.95 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 4.06 crore. Total of Hindi and Hinglish versions for 2nd week: Rs. 12.31 crore. The total for the two versions in the first week was Rs. 10.72 crore. The Tamil version netted Rs. 45 lakh in 2nd week (1st week Rs. 76 lakh), the Telugu dubbed version, Rs. 69 lakh (1st week Rs. 75 lakh), the Malayalam dubbed version collected Rs. 14 lakh (1st week Rs. 25 lakh), and the Kannada dubbed version, Rs. 1 lakh (1st week Rs. 1 lakh). In other words, the four South languages together collected Rs. 1.29 crore (1st week Rs. 1.77 crore). Therefore, all the versions put together netted Rs. 13.60 crore in 2nd week (1st week Rs. 12.49 crore). Grand total for 2 weeks for all the six versions together: Rs. 26.09 crore.

Rashtra Kavach Om did not even manage to survive in 2nd week.

Minions: The Rise Of Gru (dubbed and the original English versions; animation) could not do much in 2nd week. The second weekend started with a take of Rs. 23 lakh on Friday. Collections on Saturday almost trebled so that the day closed at Rs. 65 lakh. The jump was even more on Sunday so that the film netted Rs. 79 lakh on the third day. Therefore, the second weekend’s total was Rs. 1.67 crore. Collections for the weekdays: Monday – Rs. 18 lakh, Tuesday – Rs. 17 lakh, Wednesday – Rs. 18 lakh, Thursday – Rs. 17 lakh. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 70 lakh. Total for 2nd week: Rs. 2.37 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 9.34 crore.

Jugjugg Jeeyo just about managed to stay afloat in 3rd week.

Jurassic World: Dominion (dubbed and the original English versions) just about scraped through in its fifth week. It netted Rs. 21 lakh in the fifth weekend, and an additional Rs. 8 lakh during the weekdays. Total for 5th week: Rs. 29 lakh. Grand total for 5 weeks: Rs. 69.34 crore.

Vickida No Varghodo (Gujarati) started slow but picked up as the first week progressed, because of good public reports. The film started with a take of only Rs. 15 lakh on the first day because of heavy rains in various parts of Gujarat. Collections on Saturday and Sunday shot up to Rs. 25 lakh and Rs. 36 lakh respectively. After a first weekend total of Rs. 76 lakh, collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 13 lakh (heavy rains in Ahmedabad on Monday evening and night), Tuesday – Rs. 13 lakh, Wednesday – Rs. 14 lakh, Thursday – Rs. 15 lakh. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 55 lakh, the first week’s total was Rs. 1.31 crore. The second weekend started very well. The film netted Rs. 27 lakh on the first day of the second weekend, more than what it netted on the first day of the first weekend!

Naadi Dosh (Gujarati) added Rs. 0.70 crore to its kitty in the fourth weekend, and a further Rs. 0.44 crore during the weekdays. Total for 4th week: Rs. 1.14 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 13.17 crore.
