POOR OPENING OF ‘FIGHTER’ SHOCKS TRADE, JUMP ON R-DAY BRINGS CHEER

The opening of FIGHTER on Thursday (January 25) dampened the spirits of the trade. Collections in the first few shows at many places were shockingly poor. They improved as the day progressed but continued to be alarmingly low in a couple of circuits like C.I. and Bihar. The day closed at Rs. 19.50 crore. Besides the odd-day and non-holiday release, its lacklustre trailer and lack of hit music are said to have resulted in the slow initial. As was expected, collections showed a huge jump on Friday because of the Republic Day holiday so that the second day closed at Rs. 36 crore.

HanuMan (dubbed) did very well in 2nd week, dropping a little less than 30%. At places, it held on pretty well in the second week. The second weekend started with a take of Rs. 2.05 crore on Friday. Collections almost doubled to Rs. 4.02 crore on Saturday. They further shot up on Sunday which, therefore, closed at Rs. 5.31 crore. Therefore, the total for the second weekend was Rs. 11.38 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 2.30 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.25 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.05 crore, Thursday (opposition of new release, Fighter) – Rs. 0.75 crore.
