BOTH MAJOR RELEASES OPEN BIG ON GOOD FRIDAY HOLIDAY

Both the major releases of this week recorded very impressive initials yesterday (March 29). While CREW recorded very good collections in the big cities and multiplexes, GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE (English and dubbed versions) fared very well in mass centres in general and in South India in particular.

Swatantrya Veer Savarkar did not perform too well in the first week, considering its high cost. It collected Rs. 1.10 crore on the first day. Collections doubled and hence increased to Rs. 2.25 crore on Saturday. The total for Sunday was Rs. 2.75 crore. Therefore, the total for the first weekend was Rs. 6.10 crore. The Holi holiday helped the film net Rs. 2.15 crore on Monday. Collections on the balance three weekdays were as follows: Tuesday – Rs. 1.07 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.05 crore. With the total for the four weekdays being Rs. 5.27 crore, the first week closed at Rs. 11.37 crore.

Madgaon Express did fairly well in 1st week. The medium-budgeted film netted Rs. 1.63 crore on the first day with the buy-one-get-one-ticket-free offer. Collections jumped 70% on Saturday which closed at Rs. 2.72 crore. The increase was minuscule on Sunday (Rs. 2.81 crore) because the buy-one-get-one-free scheme was discontinued. After a weekend total of Rs. 7.16 crore, collections were very good on Monday (Rs. 2.72 crore) on account of Holi. Collections for the balance three weekdays were steady at low levels: Tuesday – Rs. 1.46 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.21 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.30 crore. In this way, the total for the four weekdays was Rs. 6.69 crore. Therefore, the first week closed at Rs. 13.85 crore.

Marriage.com proved to be a debacle in the first week.

Yodha did fair business in its second weekend and on Monday due to Holi holiday but collections dropped markedly in the balance weekdays. The film started the weekend with a take of Rs. 1.20 crore. Collections on Saturday and Sunday increased to Rs. 1.75 crore and Rs. 1.80 crore respectively. After a fair second weekend total of Rs. 4.75 crore, it held on decently on Monday owing to the Holi holiday. It collected Rs. 1.45 crore on the fourth day (Monday). Collections for the balance weekdays were: Tuesday – Rs. 0.75 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.55 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.50 crore. Hence the total for the four weekdays was Rs. 3.25 crore. It all added up to Rs. 8 crore in 2nd week. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 30.50 crore.

Kung Fu Panda 4 (animation; dubbed and the original English versions) dropped only around 33% in 2nd week. The second weekend started with a take of Rs. 1.17 crore on Friday. Collections more than doubled to Rs. 2.85 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 2.87 crore on Sunday. After a second weekend total of Rs. 6.89 crore, collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 1.23 crore (Holi holiday), Tuesday – Rs. 0.78 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.70 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.67 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 3.38 crore. In this way, the second week closed at Rs. 10.27 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 26.02 crore.

Shaitaan continued to rule in 3rd week. It started the third weekend with a net collection of Rs. 2.52 crore. Collections jumped to Rs. 4.57 crore on Saturday. The total for Sunday was Rs. 4.11 crore. After a 3rd weekend total of Rs. 11.20 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 3.04 crore (Holi holiday), Tuesday – Rs. 2.25 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.85 crore, Thursday – Rs 1.70 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 8.84 crore. In this way, the third week closed at Rs. 20.04 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 137.72 crore.

Laapataa Ladies netted Rs. 2 crore in its fourth week. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 15.08 crore.

Dune: Part Two (dubbed and the original English versions) netted Rs. 0.25 crore on the first day of its fourth weekend. Collections more than doubled on Saturday and Sunday so that they closed at Rs. 0.56 crore and Rs. 0.59 crore respectively. Therefore, the fourth weekend’s total was Rs. 1.40 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.24 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.15 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.16 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.15 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 0.70 crore. Hence the total for 4th week was Rs. 2.10 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 26.80 crore.

Article 370 managed average collections in 5th week. It netted Rs. 2.85 crore in its fifth week, taking its grand total for 5 weeks to Rs. 75.80 crore.

 

Janma Runn (Marathi) fared poorly in 1st week all over Maharashtra.

Morrya (Marathi) did not perform well in the first week in Maharashtra.
