The expected has happened. Nitesh Tiwari’s Chhichhore, doing phenomenally well at the ticket windows, is slowly but surely turning out to be a hit. The start may not have been excellent but the word of mouth for the Sushant Singh Rajput starrer was so positive that collections saw a huge jump on Saturday and Sunday.
Sajid Nadiadwala and Fox Star Studios’ Chhichhore opened with an all-India total of Rs. 7 crore (net) on Friday, September 6. With Sushant Singh Rajput not having delivered anything extraordinary after M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story, his Chhichhore wasn’t expected to have the audience going crazy about it, at least not before its release. Hence from that angle, an opening-day figure of Rs. 7 crore wasn’t bad. But it was not good either. However, collections jumped by almost 60% on Saturday which, therefore, closed at a remarkable Rs. 11.65 crore. Although the total for the third day is still unknown, the indication is that the film might have crossed the 15-crore mark on Sunday, which means, a growth of more than 100% on Friday’s collection, and about 30% on Saturday’s collections.
The ensemble cast film seems to have struck a chord in people’s hearts for its fun projection of hostel and college life as well as for the fantastic message it gives parents. Frankly, although the message is meant for parents, it will resonate equally well with the youth because it (the message) concerns the youngsters.
Going by the appreciation for the film, it seems very likely that it will soon join the Rs. 100-crore club. Yes, there are several films releasing this week (Dream Girl, Baadshah Pehlwaan and Section 375) and in the following week (Prasthaanam, Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas and The Zoya Factor) but even in the midst of several new releases, Chhichhore will have a noteworthy run at the turnstiles. That seems to be the writing on the wall.
