The Kerala police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing sexual assault cases against celebrities in the Malayalam film industry, on September 25 arrested another Malayalam film actor, Edavela Babu, following a three-hour interrogation. He was released soon thereafter as he had secured anticipatory bail from the Ernakulam principal sessions court on September 5. He was taken for medical examination after the questioning.
A complaint was filed against Edavela Babu by an Aluva-based actress. The police registered a case against the actor under IPC sections 354 (sexual assault) and 376 (rape).
