Bengali film actress and Trinamool Congress MP Nusrat Jahan on 9th June claimed that her marriage to Nikhil Jain was invalid in India. She had reportedly married the businessman in Turkey in 2019. In a statement, she said, “Being on foreign land, as per Turkish Marriage Regulation, the ceremony is invalid. Since it was an interfaith marriage, it required validation under the Special Marriage Act in India, which didn’t happen. As per the court of law, it is not a marriage, but a relationship or a live-in relationship. The question of divorce doesn’t arise… Our separation happened long ago but I didn’t speak about it as I intended to keep my private life to myself.”
On the other hand, Nikhil has claimed that Nusrat kept dilly-dallying whenever he brought up the point of registration of their marriage. She left their marital home in November last year, according to Nikhil who added that he had helped her financially. He denied that he had taken her money or cheated her financially. He said, her behaviour towards him changed soon after their wedding.
