Multiplex chains, reeling under losses caused by the coronavirus lockdown, have taken harsh steps to reduce their losses. The PVR, Inox, Carnival and Cinepolis chains as also the other smaller chains are said to have terminated the services of thousands of contracted staff across India. These include the security staff at their properties, housekeeping staff, cinema operators, food court staff etc. Around 90% of this staff in each of the properties of the various multiplex chains has been asked not to rejoin when the multiplexes reopen after the lockdown is lifted. Inox has also retrenched around 190 staff members.
