MUSIC DIRECTOR SAPAN SENGUPTA NO MORE | 16 October, 2022

Noted music director of yesteryears, Sapan Sengupta of Sapan-Jagmohan duo, passed away yesterday (15th October) at his residence in Bombay. He and Jagmohan Bakshi worked together as a team and gave the world many a memorable hit. They were popular music directors of the 1960s and 1970s. Jagmohan Bakshi had passed away in 1999.

Among the films for which Sapan-Jagmohan composed music were Abhi To Jee Lein, Begaana, Chetna, Call Girl,Lal Kothi, Jyoti (1988), Gunah Aur Kanoon, Nai Duniya Naye Log, Raees (1976), Rakhi Aur Rifle, Darwaza and Do Raha. They had composed music for Bengali, Bhojpuri and Punjabi films too, besides Hindi. In fact, their first release was the Punjabi film Jijaji (1961). Begaana (1963) was their first Hindi film. Among their songs which remain popular even today are Phir wohi bhooli si yaad aayee hai (Begaana), Ulfat mein zamaane ki (Call Girl), Main toh har mod par (Chetna), Teri talaash mein (Teri Talaash Mein), Saiyyan ke gaon mein (Sajjo Rani) and Tumhi rehnuma ho (Do Raha). Kishore Kumar was so impressed by Sapan-Jagmohan’s music composition for Mera Jeevan kuchh kaam na aaya (Mera Jivan) that he did not charge anything for lending his voice to it.
