A nanny working for music director Gourov Dasgupta has accused his estranged wife, Arushi, of assaulting her. The wife has denied the allegations and said that the complaint has been made at the behest of her husband.
According to the nanny, Anamita Sorn, the alleged assault took place in New Delhi at the house of Arushi’s father but when the police there did not register a case, she approached the police in Bombay in the first week of August. But when no FIR was filed by the Bombay police, she wrote to the zonal assistant commissioner of police and approached the court in Bombay with a private complaint. In an order dated November 9, passed by the Andheri (Bombay) magistrate court, it directed the Oshiwara police to conduct an enquiry into the matter and submit a report by December 29.
The complainant said that she had gone to Delhi with the couple’s three-year-old daughter for ten days, which got extended to months due to the lockdown. She also said that the accused, under the influence of alcohol, assaulted her on 22nd July in Delhi. She explained that the accused pulled the complainant’s hair, dragged her across the floor, slapped her and punched her face thrice. Petrified, the complainant first locked herself in the bathroom and later in the puja room. She added that when the driver and the accused’s father tried to intervene, the accused physically charged at them too. The complaint said that a relative of Gourov Dasgupta had to be sent to pick her up the next morning.
On her part, Arushi said that the complaint had been made at the instance of her husband from whom she is in the process of getting a divorce. She added that he had asked the nanny to make the complaint to prove that she was incapable of looking after their daughter.
