NATIONAL CINEMA DAY WITNESSES 6 MILLION-PLUS FOOTFALLS IN CINEMAS | 14 October, 2023

The Multiplex Association of India’s National Cinema Day, which was celebrated yesterday (13th October), attracted more than 6 million people to the cinemas across the nation. More than 4,000 screens participated in the initiative, including multiplex chains like PVR Inox, Cinepolis, Miraj, City Pride, Rajhans, Mukta A2, Movie Time, Wave, M2K, Moviemax, NY Cinemas etc. The ticket price was a fixed Rs. 99 only.

It was the running films like Mission Raniganj, Fukrey 3 and Jawan, which benefitted the most as attendance in cinemas screening these films saw a huge jump in ticket sales. However, there was no major impact on the new releases like Dhak Dhak, Ab Toh Sab Bhagwan Bharose, Guthlee Ladoo, etc., which opened yesterday.

The concept of a National Cinema Day was introduced last year when September 23 was observed as the day to attract more crowds to the cinemas and to thank them for patronising cinemas, by selling tickets at low and more affordable rates. The film industry was trying very hard then to bring back movie lovers to the cinemas after the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. Last year, around 6.5 million people visited the cinemas on the National Cinema Day.
