The Vartak Nagar police in Bombay on May 10 registered a non-cognisable (NC) offence against NCP leader and former cabinet minister Jitendra Awhad for his comments on the controversial The Kerala Story. In his complaint, the complainant said that he came across Awhad’s comments on a TV news channel to the effect that the film was based on “fake incidents”, which amounted to defaming the film.
An offence under section 500 (defamation) of the IPC was registered based on the complaint received on May 10. Earlier, Awhad had allegedly said that the film’s producer should be hanged in public for “insulting the women of Kerala”.
