Well-known film director Nishikant Kamat passed away this evening (17th August) in Hyderabad at the AIG Hospital where he was undergoing treatment for cirrhosis of the liver. He was 50. He was on life support system which was switched off a few minutes back, after his family decided to do that. The doctors had mentioned to the family that the chances of his survival were almost nil.
Nishikant, who had been in hospital since 31st July, showed some improvement last week. Encouraged, the doctors were contemplating going in for liver transplant. However, his condition deteriorated yesterday. His vital organs had failed, and his condition seemed to have become irreversible today.
The young director was a bachelor. He had directed films like Mumbai Meri Jaan, Force, Madaari, Drishyam and Rocky Handsome in Hindi, and Dombivli Fast and Lai Bhaari in Marathi. He had remade his own Dombivli Fast in Tamil in 2007 as Evano Oruvan. Besides being a good director, he was also a fine actor and had played important roles in films like Rocky Handsome, Daddy and Bhavesh Joshi Superhero.
Nishikant was fond of socialising and entertaining friends. His evening drink was something he absolutely loved.
