NO PERMANENT EXEMPTION FROM COURT APPEARANCE TO KANGANA | 23 March, 2022

A magistrate’s court yesterday (March 22) rejected a plea by Kangana Ranaut seeking permanent exemption from appearance in the defamation case filed by writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar. While the court granted her exemption on March 22, it said, “The court assures the accused that she will be exempted on specific situations if needed by consent of both sides.”

The court adjourned the matter to April 17. Javed Akhtar’s defamation complaint was filed in November 2020 before the Andheri (Bombay) magistrate’s court. His complaint said, his immaculate reputation was tarnished when the actress falsely attributed statements to him in a television interview in the aftermath of Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise.
