Veteran art director Paresh Daru (of Chhel-Paresh duo) passed away last night (10th November) in Bombay. He was 87 years old. His funeral was performed this morning (11th). He was married to famous costume designer Leena Daru who died last year on 31st July.
Chhel-Paresh had done the art direction and production designing for more than 600 stage-plays, mainly in Gujarati but also in various other languages. They had also done the art direction of around 45 films in Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Haryanvi and Oriya. Among the films they were associated with as art directors were Lorie, Train To Pakistan, Khoobsurat, Wazir (Marathi) and Laado (Haryanvi). The duo also designed the sets of a number of TV serials including many made by Raman Kumar. They worked as a team since 1964.
