Comparisons are odious. But Kangana Ranaut loves to compare herself to the likes of Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone, which is probably why she keeps running down films and actions of the two A-list actresses of Bollywood while losing no opportunity to praise her own films and actions. But it may shock her to know that Nushrat Bharucha’s latest film, Janhit Mein Jaari, has outperformed her own recent release, Dhaakad. Before listing down the collections of the first weekend of the two films, let it be clarified that like Dhaakad, Janhit Mein Jaari has also not worked at the ticket counters. But the cast and crew of the latter film can, perhaps, take solace in the fact that their film has outshone Dhaakad, at least.
While Dhaakad had netted Rs. 1.68 crore in the first weekend, Janhit Mein Jaari has collected a net of Rs. 2.17 crore in the first three days. The collections for the individual days are as follows:
Dhaakad: Friday – Rs. 50 lakh, Saturday – Rs. 57 lakh, Sunday – Rs. 61 lakh; total – Rs. 1.68 crore.
Janhit Mein Jaari: Friday – Rs. 43 lakh, Saturday – Rs. 80 lakh, Sunday – Rs. 94 lakh; total – Rs. 2.17 crore.
One doesn’t know whether Nushrat should despair because the film is not doing well or rejoice that her film has performed better than Kangana’s film.
P.S.: If you think, both, Janhit Mein Jaari and Dhaakad, were released in roughly the same number of cinemas, you are wrong. Janhit Mein Jaari has been released in 25-30% of the number of cinemas in which Kangana’s starrer was released. In spite of the far lower number of cinema screens, its collections are 30% more than those of Dhaakad.
