Abhijit Shome, the man who allegedly created a fake Instagram account of actress Vidya Balan, was arrested on 6th March in Calcutta. He used the account to contact gullible people to discuss work and demanded money from them. Vidya had lodged a complaint about the fraud at Khar police station in Bombay on 19th February.
The Maharashtra police arrested Shome in Calcutta with assistance from the Calcutta police. The Maharashtra police sought Shome’s transit remand but he was released on bail.
