Sonu Nigam, Hariharan, Shaan, politician Aaditya Thackeray and others graced the ceremony to recently unveil a chowk named after Padma Vibhushan Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. The honours were done by Aaditya Thackeray. The chowk is located near the Additional Commissioner of Police’s office on Carter Road at Bandra in Bombay.
Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 89, was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1991, followed by the Padma Bhushan in 2006, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2018. Ustad had mentored Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, A.R. Rahman, Hariharan, Sonu Nigam and Shaan among others. He had composed music for a number of Hindi and regional language films. He used to also lend his voice to the songs. Mrinal Sen’s Bhuvan Shome marked his entry into the world of playback singing.
