To motivate tourists to visit a city or state after seeing it in a film, and to encourage states to make their land conducive to film shootings, the central ministry of tourism in association with the ministry of information & broadcasting on 8th November organised a symposium in Bombay, proposing a film promotion office in the chief minister’s office, and a model film facilitation policy for all states to follow. This film promotion office will grant timely shooting permissions to producers.
The I & B ministry had set up a film facilitation office in Delhi in 2015, which helped 120 international filmmakers from 27 countries to shoot in India since its formation. However, only 70 domestic films benefitted from this office, pointing out to the need for various states to ease shooting clearances. The government’s draft model film facilitation policy would be based on policies that 14 states have drafted. This could then be adopted by all the other states.
