A sessions court in Bombay earlier this week convicted and sentenced producer Yogesh Singh to three years’ rigorous imprisonment for stabbing model and TV actress Malvi Malhotra at Andheri in Bombay in October 2020. The prosecution had submitted that the accused producer and the lady were acquainted with each other and she had rejected his pleas to start a romantic relationship with her.
Additional sessions judge Nandkishor L. More found Singh guilty of the attempt to murder charge and said, Malvi, who had sustained injuries to her stomach, could have died had she not received immediate medical attention. “The accused was holding a knife at the time of the incident and stabbed the victim after she ignored him,” said the judge, adding, “The possession of a knife at the time of the incident by the accused and giving of multiple blows of the knife on the victim…, it is explicit that the accused had the intention to cause serious injury to the victim.”
On October 26, 2020, Malvi Malhotra was on her way home after returning from Dubai when, around 9 p.m.,the accused allegedly tried to talk to her. When she refused, he took out the knife and stabbed her three to four times in her stomach and fled in his car. A man, who was passing by, took her to a hospital by an autorickshaw.
Yogesh Singh contacted Malvi in May-June 2020 for acting in a music video. After meeting him half a dozen times, she realised that he was not serious about giving her work and started ignoring him. However, Singh kept insisting on getting intimate and married to her.
