The trailer of the third and last instalment in the Drishyam franchise — Drishyam: The Conclusion — was launched in Goa at Inox multiplex today (9th September) in the presence of the film’s cast, director Abhishek Pathak, producers Kumar Mangat Pathak, Alok Jain and Ajit Andhare, writers, exhibitors and members of the media from across India. The trailer promises intrigue, thrill, drama and tension-ridden moments, all of which made Drishyam and Drishyam 2 the box-office hits they were.
A distinguishing feature of the third part is that unlike the first two parts, it is not a remake of the Malayalam original (Drishyam 3) but is instead based on a script written jointly by Aamil Keeyan Khan, Abhishek Pathak and Parvez Shaikh. The third part is based on a completely different script on which the writers worked for two-and-a-half years. In other words, the Hindi Drishyam: The Conclusion has not much to do with the Malayalam Drishyam 3. For the uninitiated, the Malayalam version was released earlier this year. Effectively, Star Studios18 and Panorama Studios, the joint producers of the film, have this time used the title Drishyam, but other than that, the film is very different from the Malayalam original.
Jaideep Ahlawat is the new important character introduced in the latest instalment. Actually, the character was introduced after differences arose between Akshaye Khanna, the investigating police officer introduced in the second part, and the director. As is well-known, the main bone of contention between Akshaye and Abhishek Pathak was that the former wanted to wear a wig in the third part whereas Pathak felt, that was simply not possible because he has a bald pate in the second part, and the third part begins where the second part concluded.
Talking about the subject of the last part, Abhishek informs that he narrated it to Ajay Devgan when he was sure that he had a good script on hand. “I loved what I heard,” recalls Ajay, “and we decided to go ahead with the script.” About not stretching the story to more parts, both, Ajay Devgan and Abhishek Pathak, are on the same page. “It is best to conclude anything that’s as popular as Drishyam, on a high note,” reasons the writer-producer-director and actor. Additionally, Ajay also reveals that all those who had seen the film had found it very interesting. Abhishek is happy that the film has shaped up the way it has. “I’m not nervous,” remarks Pathak, adding, “I’m happy that I have made an original film in my second Drishyam outing.” Aamil Keeyan Khan, who has co-written the film with Pathak and Parvez Shaikh, says, “Abhishek cracked the story. He came with a wonderful base for the third part, and then we got working on it.” Aamil has such high words of praise for Jaideep Ahlawat that the actor couldn’t stop blushing when he heard the compliment. Says Aamil, “For me, Irfaan Khan was one of the best actors we’ve ever had, and I have no hesitation in saying that Jaideep is quite like Irfaan Khan.” On his part, Jaideep is a fan of Tabu with whom, he says, he would love to do another film.
Life seems to have come a full circle for Jaideep because he had got his acting break in Kumar Mangat Pathak’s Aakrosh, starring Ajay Devgan. After 16 years, he is working once again in Kumar Mangat Pathak’s Drishyam: The Conclusion, and his co-star over again is Ajay Devgan.
Drishyam: The Conclusion is slated for release on October 2, 2026. Since representatives of the national multiplex chains were all present at the grand trailer launch in Goa, the obvious discussion was about the expected box-office collections on the opening day. The figures ranged from Rs. 30 crore to Rs. 40 crore. Touch wood! Of course, with a little over three weeks remaining for the film to hit the screens, the craze for it, in all likelihood, will increase. Who knows, the opening day’s collection figure could be more than Rs. 40 crore?!
