PVR INOX TO CHALLENGE BANGALORE PENALTY ORDER FOR LONG ADVERTISEMENT FILMS | 20 February, 2025

PVR Inox will challenge the order passed by the Bangalore Urban District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission which had ruled that showing too many advertisements before the start of the film was an unfair trade practice.

“PVR Inox acknowledges the order passed by the hon’ble Bangalore Urban District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission,” the multiplex chain said, adding, “We are currently reviewing the order in detail and firmly believe that we have a strong case. Accordingly, we intend to challenge the decision before the appropriate legal forum.”

The consumer court levied a penalty of Rs. 20,000 on PVR Inox, payable to the complainant, advocate Abhishek M.R., for mental distress and wasting time, and Rs. 8,000 as legal expenses, after he complained about a 25-minute delay in the screening of film Sam Bahadur in December 2023, during which too many ads were played. It also imposed a penalty of Rs. 1 lakh on the multiplex chain.

The complainant had argued that time was money, and that due to misrepresentation of film show timings by the cinema, he was unable to attend his other scheduled appointments resulting in irreplaceable losses.
